To Submit a Speaker Proposal:
- Review the conference theme, Description and topics for the HVCI conference. If your area related to a specific topic and does not included in our list, Please contact us in order to update our topics with yours.
- Use the Keynote Speaker Template: KS-abstract to submit a proposal that is relevant to the topic described
- The official speaking proposal submission deadline for the International Conference on Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (Innovations and Technologies) is March 10, 2023. However, HVCI is pleased to accept proposals anytime, even before we issue a Call for Speakers, or after the deadline has passed. Please note, after the deadline, as the HVCI Committee will get underway with speaker proposal selection, the earlier proposals are submitted, the higher the probability it will have of being accepted by the Committee.

Dr. Umberto Berardi

BIO/ (Google H-Index: 50): Dr. Berardi is the Canada Research Chair of Building Science and is a Full Professor and Director of the BeTOP center at Ryerson University in Toronto (Canada); alongside these roles, he also works for the Politecnico di Bari (Italy). His main research interests are related to the study of innovative solutions and new materials for improving the performance within the built environment. He has been focusing on integrating nanotechnologies into buildings, as well as on thermal energy storage with paraffin and bio-PCMs. He is also interested in exploring innovative solutions for more climate-change resilient communities and continues to study the impact of climate change concerning the sustainability of buildings and cities. He is a Principal Investigator at the Center of Urban Energy in Toronto. Dr. Berardi has an extensive publication record, including 130 peer-reviewed journals, 130 international conference papers, and five books. His publications have received over 10,000 citations (Google Scholar). His awards include (among others): the 10th Canada’s Clean16 Award 2021 and the 2020 European Thermophysical Properties ECTP Award. Dr. Berardi has a body of funded research comprising over USD 2 M in government- and private-sector-sponsored research, and he also supervises a group of 15 researchers on average.

BIO (H-Index 25): Dr. Xinhua Xu is currently working as Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Research Fellow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Building Services Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China in 2005. His area of research interest focuses on several issues such as Utilization of Renewable Energy, Building Thermal and Moisture Transfer Process Analysis, Building Energy Efficiency Technology, Optimal and Intelligent Control of Air-Conditioning Systems and Building System, AI Applications in HVAC. Prof. Xinhua Xu received honors includes the research fund of program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, the research fund of Chu Tian Scholar Scheme of Hubei Province. He has been rewarded 2 NSF funds as PI, more than 60 funds from industrial fields. He has published three books and over 170 academic journal papers including over 80 SCI papers, 24 Chinese patents. He is the editorial board member of an international journal “Discover Mechanical Engineering”, and serves as reviewer for other international journals such as Renewable Energy, Energy and Buildings, Building and Environment, Applied Energy, Energy, etc.

Rosen is a Professor at Ontario Tech University (formally University of Ontario Institute of Technology) in Oshawa, Canada, where he served as founding Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Dr. Rosen was President of the Engineering Institute of Canada. A registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, he serves as Editor-in-Chief of several journals and was a Director of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation. With over 60 research grants and contracts and 900 publications, Dr. Rosen is active in sustainable energy, environmental impact, and energy technology (including hydrogen energy, renewable energy and efficiency). Much of his research has been carried out for industry, and he has written numerous books. Dr. Rosen has worked for such organizations as Imatra Power Company in Finland, Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, and the Institute for Hydrogen Systems near Toronto. Dr. Rosen has received numerous awards and honors, and is a fellow of several societies and organizations, including the Royal Society of Canada.

Julian Hunt is a research scholar in the Sustainable Service Systems (S3) Research Group of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program where he focuses on implementing daily and seasonal storage energy technologies in MESSAGE models and analyzing the impact of these technologies on long-term energy planning. His research interests include analysis of energy systems, water-energy-land interfaces, climate change risks, energy security, and energy storage.
In addition to his position at IIASA, Hunt is also a visiting professor in the postgraduate program in mechanical engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, where he teaches energy storage and supervises master’s and doctoral students.
Prior to joining the S3 group, Hunt received a two-year IIASA/CAPES-Brazil research grant to map the global potential for seasonal pumped storage. He joined IIASA from the National Commission for Nuclear Energy (CNEN) in Brazil, developing hybrid nuclear and seawater desalination projects. He also previously worked at the Energy and Climate Change Branch of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Hunt holds a D.Phil in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford and a B.Eng degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham.

BIO (Google H-Index: 36): Mohsen Sharifpur is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology at the University of Pretoria (UP), South Africa. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, his Master of Engineering in Nuclear Engineering, and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Thermal-Fluid).
His research includes mathematical modelling, thermal fluid behaviour and stability of nanofluids, improvement of heat transfer by nanofluids, convective multiphase flow, computational fluid dynamics, and Fluid Dynamics from Nanoscale to Universe scale. He established a Nanofluid Research Laboratory at UP in 2010, one of Africa’s most active and productive nanofluid research laboratories. He is an innovative thinker and based on fluid dynamics, constructal law, nature and patterns in nature, and cosmology data, he invented a new general and multidiscipline theory as “source and Sink Theory”. His general-multidiscipline theory has the potential to describe the early universe better than previous theories, and the link to the online article is https://dx.doi.org/10.22606/tp.2020.51001. He believes his theory is the case for the future. Professor Sharifpur has authored or co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed papers published in accredited journals and international conference proceedings. At UP, he has acted as a supervisor for several post-doctoral researchers, PhD and Master students.
Professor Sharifpur has been the editor or guest editor for several journals in his field. He also received a C2 rating scientist for his research activities from the National Research Founds (NRF) of South Africa in 2016 and, at the moment, is waiting for the outcome of his new rating. He has been within the top 2% of highly cited researchers for 2020 and 2021.

BIO (Google H-Index: 23): Prof. Zhou obtained his PhD degree in 2021 from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU), a Master’s degree from Hunan University in 2017, and a Bachelor’s from PLA University of Science and Technology in 2014. Prof. Zhou conducted his PhD attachment program in 2019 at Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands, under the supervision of Prof. Jan L.M. Hensen. He joined in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2021. He was awarded the Best Paper Award in CUE2020: Applied Energy Symposium: Low carbon cities and urban energy systems, organized by Applied Energy journal. He has 3 highly cited papers (ESI 1%). He won the award of Outstanding PhD candidate at the international conference on Energy and Built Environment’ in 2021. Dr. Zhou is invited to serve as a guest for several SCI journals. Prof. Zhou was also invited to contribute chapters in 7 books (publishers: Elsevier, Springer, and so on).
